Return of the Dan- Barlaser signs for the Millers

ROTHERHAM United have resigned loan hit, Dan Barlaser, on a permanent deal.

The Newcastle youngster returns to the Millers for an undisclosed fee on a 3 year deal.

“I’m really pleased” Millers boss, Paul Warne, told the Advertiser. “When Dan left us at the end of last season, we always wanted to get him back. He had a really influential year here with us.

“I really wanted Dan to succeed at Newcastle for his own sake,” Warne said. He’d been at the club since he was about nine. It was a dream of his and his family for him to play in the first team at Newcastle regularly.

“I politely kept my distance. I was always texting him to wish him well, but I was never saying: ‘when are you coming back?’ I wasn’t like that with him. I always wanted him to do well.

“when we got the green light that we could start the process, we did. It’s great t have him back, but I am tinged with a little bit of sadness for him because I knew what his dream was.

“It’s our job as a bunch of coaches to try and get him to the Premier League in another way.”

It has been reported by The Chronicle that: “the Magpies could earn 40+% of any future fee” should the Millers sell in future.

Barlaser wanted to test himself at his boyhood club with the goal of breaking into the Newcastle first team. Two outings in the EFL Cup in the black and white stripes came in 2020/21 for Barlaser, where he showed the vision and ability with long balls that shone in the red of Rotherham in League One.

“I was never going anywhere else” Barlaser told themillers.co.uk

The midfielder made 35 appearances for Rotherham last season in all competitions, bagging 2 goals and 5 assists in League One, most notedly the free kick against Blackpool at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Barlaser is available to face Huddersfield Town on Saturday (Oct 3rd)
